How to Write a Scene

Maybe you know just what your character will be like, but not how xe looks. There's not a lot more frustrating than being unable to visualize a character while reading. Here are some things to consider about your character's appearance:

1. What is xir gender? Does xe fit stereotypical gender roles?

2. How old is xe? If xe goes to school, what grade is xe in?

3. What is xir hair color? Is that xir natural color? How does xe usually wear xir hair?

4. What is xir eye color? Does xe wear glasses or contacts?

5. Would other people consider xir tall, short, or not really notice xir height?

6. Is xe thin, thick, or buff?

7. What is xir skin tone? 

8. What kinds of things is xe most comfortable wearing? 

9. What is the first thing people notice about your character?

10. Does xe have crooked or straight teeth? Braces?

11. Does xe or would xe wear makeup or nail polish?

12. How important is personal hygene to xir? Does xe wash xir face every day in fear of acne or just let everything naturally happen?

13. What is xir favorite feature on xirself? Least favorite feature?

14. Are xir hands, fingers, ears, feet, and nose all proportionate to the rest of xir body, or is one of them significantly bigger or smaller?

15. Any birthmarks? Any tattoos or piercings? Do any of these contribute to the plot?
